Local Village Becoming Major Hub Town

September 26th, 2011

When Jennifer Abubakar Abena, 29 and her father, Magudo, 53, raised over fifteen thousand dollars for a charity to help their corrupt ridden village, there was no way they could have foreseen the level of success they would reach. Just over a year after their campaign began, the team have implemented plans within the village to turn it into an oasis, rather than the semi-baron wasteland that is was. The fresh-water purification center is half way through completion. The new hospital has been finished for some months now and already proving a huge success and the new school’s 250 pupils are queuing up to take lessons and get an education. This has been such a success that the children who missed out on a place, have been accommodated in temporary huts until the extension can be completed.

Jennifer Abubakar Abena’s father speaks no English, so, through his daughter, told us of his joy. “We are so very pleased with the way things have gone. The generosity shown by people from all over the world has made it possible for us to not only wipe out disease and illiteracy in this village, but also it is a step forward for us to stamp out corruption too. I am so overjoyed and the money is still coming in.”

Jennifer Abubakar Abena echoed those words saying, “We would like to thank everybody who has made any size of donation to this village. We hope that our work will continue to create and develop this village. Maybe one day it will become a thriving small town, with businesses and communication networks. And it will no longer be corrupt. That is our ultimate goal and we will, one day, make sure it happens.”  Jennifer Abubakar Abena smiled as she walked back to the construction site to oversee the project.
